BOB MEIBORG 1920- Bob is a railway enthusiast from Wheaton , Illinois. The USA is the home of the worlds longest trains, and Bob evolved a unique way of recording them. He uses a special Hulcher camera of the kind which records race finishes; like the Cirkut this apparatus has no shutter. Unlike the Cirkut, the camera does not turn; the 70mm film travels past a recording slit, and the moving image is synchronised precisely on the moving film with a radar gun of the kind speed cops use. Bobs pièce de resistance, the half-mile Baraboo Circus train recorded on a 14 foot piece of film, is not only a masterpiece of technique, it is a wonderful subject; and as such deserves to be more widely known as one of the most amazing images of all time.
